Easy step by step video to show you how to make Chinese Sticky Rice 糯米飯 / Taiwanese Oil Rice 油飯 in your Instant Pot

Sticky Rice so easy and nice. Throw it in the pot and eat it while it’s hot!

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups white glutinous rice using rice measuring cup
  • 3 cups water using rice measuring cup
  • 4 shitake mushrooms soaked overnight then diced
  • 2 chinese sausages diced
  • ½ cup chinese style pork belly
  • ¼ cup dried shrimp soaked overnight is best
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce more to taste

Instructions
 

  • Open Instant Pot. Select Saute. Add in sausage, pork belly and saute for about 5 minutes.
  • Add in shrimp, mushrooms, salt and cook for another 5 minutes.
  • Turn off saute. Remove ingredients.
  • First, add in uncooked rice and water into Instant Pot liner.
  • Next, add in sauteed ingredients.
  • Close Instant Pot. Select Rice function for 15 minutes. When done, quick release.
  • Add in soy sauce to taste, mix and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use the rice measuring cup to measure the rice and water (these cups are smaller than usual measuring cups).  Don't worry, if you don't have a rice measuring cup, just remember that the rice grain to water ratio is 1:1 (equal portions of uncooked rice and water).

  1. I think there is a typo in the recipe. You say and show 3 c of water/liquid being added but the recipe indicates 2 c. Would you confirm there is 3 c.?

      It won’t have the stickiness and texture that the dish calls for and it’ll taste more like fried rice.
